Lion Court adjoins one of the finest stately homes in Britain – Staunton Harold Hall.

Lion Court was once the servants’ quarters of the Hall. It was formerly known as the West Wing, but has since been named after the splendid lion, who stands guard on the rooftop. Legend has it that the lion comes down to drink from the lake whenever he hears the church bells strike midnight.

Staunton Harold Estate comprises a beautiful area of woodland, gardens and parkland straddling the Leicester-Derbyshire border. As well as Lion Court and the hall itself, the estate also includes:

• The Ferrers Centre – an arts and crafts centre for small businesses. The Ferrers Centre surrounds a lovely courtyard in what was once the stables. It includes an excellent tea rooms and is just 100 yards from Lion Court.

• Staunton Harold Nurseries – a well-visited garden centre, which also includes tea rooms in what was once a conservatory for growing peaches for the hall.

• The National Forest – Staunton Harold lies in the heart of the National Forest. There are a myriad of walks through the woodland, including a path that goes past the lake and as far as the nearby reservoir.

The towns of Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Melbourne are only five minutes drive away, and the villages of Lount and Ticknall are even closer.

Lion Court retains the original charm of a stately home, while being fully-equipped as a 21st century business centre.
